How to set up POP3 and IMAP email accounts on the Samsung Galaxy S

Android-based smartphones include two email clients, one for Gmail and one for other types of email servers including Microsoft Exchange, IMAP and POP3.

The following guide will show you how to set up the built-in email application on the Samsung Galaxy S to access an IMAP or POP3 email server for incoming email, and an SMTP server for outbound email. The setup for both IMAP and POP3 is the same.

• Tap the Home icon
• Tap the Grid icon so you can view all installed applications

• Tap the Email icon
• Enter your Email Address and Password for the account you are setting up and tap Next

• Select the type of account: POP3, IMAP, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync; select either POP3 or IMAP, as appropriate
• Enter the Incoming server settings: Username, Password, POP3 server (ex: pop.yourdomiain.com), Port, Security type, and Delete email from server, then tap Done, and then Next

• Enter the Outgoing server settings: SMTP server (ex: smtp.yourdomain.com), Port, Security type, Require sign-in (check box), Username, and Password, then tap Done, and then Next
• You can now select Account options: Email checking frequency (15 minutes by default), Send email from this account by default (check box), and Notify me when email arrives (checkbox) – make your selections and tap Next

• Your email account is now set up on your Samsung Galaxy S and must be named — also be sure to enter your name to be displayed on outgoing messages

Once completed, the Samsung Galaxy S will connect to the account and begin retrieving your email. While viewing the message list, you are also able to change the settings that are assigned to this account by tapping the Menuicon — which is directly to the left of the Home icon — and then tapping Account settings. The following options are available:

• Account name
• Your name
• Email check frequency
• Default account (make the current account the default email account on your Samsung Galaxy S)
• Email notifications
• Select Ringtone
• Vibrate
• Incoming settings (to modify IMAP or POP3 server settings)
• Outgoing settings (to modify SMTP server settings)

The menu icon also gives you more options, which include refresh, compose, folders, accounts and account settings.

Oddly, if you want to add another email account to your Samsung Galaxy S, it is done while viewing the message list of an account that has been previously setup. Tap the Menu icon — which is directly to the left of the Home icon — and then tap Accounts. Then start from the top of this guide to add another account.

If you have accidentally missed to save these settings, you can request for them again using your Airtel Menu, Go to “My Stuff” menu and click on:

You will receive the GPRS/EDGE settings again over SMS

Balance Transfer (BTR) Procedures

New Process

• From now on new subscribers don’t have to follow the following process, they will have a built in option for balance transfer in their new SIM.
• Existing subscribers will not get built in facility in their SIM unless and until they change their SIM.

New Balance Transfer Process

Transfer Balance-> Give Receiver’s Mobile Number -> Confirm Mobile No -> Give Amount -> Confirm Amount -> Give PIN

New Pin Change Process

Give Old PIN-> Give New PIN-> Confirm New PIN Register

To Register

1. Go to create new message option and type REGI.
2. Then send the message to 1000.
3. Subscribers will receive a confirmation message where the PIN code number for balance transfer will be given.

To Transfer Balance

1. Go to create new message option and type BTR(space)****(PIN)(space)0171***(mb no)(space)100(amount). Never type any dot or Tk. or 00 after the amount figure.
2.  Then send the message to 1000.
3.  Subscribers will receive a confirmation message mentioning that the amount has been transferred successfully. With this their current balance after the transfer will be also shown.

Receiver of the balance will also get a message mentioning that he/she has received balance in his/her account and his/her current balance will be shown.

To Change PIN

1. Go to create new message option and type CPIN (space) OLDPIN (space) NEWPIN (space) NEWPIN. [Example: CPIN 1234 4321 4321]
2. Then send the message to 1000.

How to Master Reset Samsung Galaxy S

Here, we show you how to hard reset or Master Reset the Samsung Galaxy S with step by step instructions. The Samsung Galaxy S is highly customizable and you have been hard at work tweaking it to your liking, but now the fun is over and you want to return it to its factory settings again.

Please note that all data will be deleted from the Samsung Galaxy S as a result of this procedure. This process does NOT delete data stored on the microSD card. We recommend backing up all of your personal data before proceeding.

Method 1:

1. From the main home screen, tap menu
2. Tap Settings, then Privacy
3. Tap Factory data reset
4. Tap Reset phone
5. Enter your password, then tap Yes to confirm

Method 2: 

1. Turn off the i9000 Phone or take out the Battery and Reinsert it.
2. Hold the Volume Down button
3. Press and Release the Power button
4. Select Clear Storage by Pressing the Volume Down button
5. Press and Release the Power button
6. Press Volume Up to confirm i9000 master reset

Setting up POP3 GMail on Android

Here, I will be guiding you on how to setup your GMail account on your Android phone for POP3 and IMAP access. I have to say, this process can be a lot more complex if you are setting up POP3 on other device, but Android has made it very easy for GMail.

First of all, if you do not know what a POP3 is, here is a brief introduction. Basically, POP3 stands for (Post Office Protocol 3) which is currently the most common e-mail server/client protocol. Your e-mails are held by the server, and your client accesses it at intervals in order to synchronize the e-mails on the server. In older days, e-mails were deleted immediately from the server the moment it was downloaded to the client, but with some programming on the mailserver, the emails can be retained on the server. Thanks to GMail, they give us several options to choose from for the purpose.

Without wasting time, here is EVERYTHING you will need to do in order to get your E-Mail running as POP3 on your Android.

What you need: A GMail account & An Android phone (Nexus One/Garmin-Asus A10/Garmin-Asus A50 tested for this tutorial).

1. Login to GMail. http://www.gmail.com

2. Click “settings” at the top right corner

3. Go to “Forwarding POP/IMAP” tab

4. Select the “Enable POP for all mail”

5. When messages are accessed with POP “mark GMail’s copy as read”

6. Enable IMAP.

7. Hit the “save changes” button.

8. In your Android phone, run the “EMail” application.

9. Select “POP3/IMAP”.

10. Insert your username “<username>@gmail.com” and password

11. Thats all. The remaining settings is done by the phone automatically. Your emails will start coming in.

12. Alternatively, while the emails are loading, hit the menu button in this e-mail application, and select “manage accounts”. Tap your account and edit the settings to your preferences (sync time interval etc.)
